It was a landmark day in Adamawa State as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu paid a one-day working visit to Yola, commissioning major projects executed by the administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

The visit, described by state officials as historic, featured the inauguration of projects valued at over ₦59.7 billion across education, infrastructure, judiciary, and government facilities — underscoring what the state government calls a new era of accelerated development.

Education at the Centre of Reform

One of the highlights of the President’s visit was the commissioning of the Yola Model School, part of 21 model schools constructed across the 21 local government areas of Adamawa State at a total cost of ₦24.8 billion.

Governor Fintiri explained that the schools form part of a broader education transformation agenda. Beyond the model schools, the state is completing three mega science and technical secondary schools across the three senatorial districts. In addition, 5,000 teachers are being recruited to ensure optimal performance and improved learning outcomes.

The administration also extended support to the Nigerian Law School campus in Yola by constructing and furnishing four new hostel blocks to boost accommodation capacity and support increased admissions.

Major Road Infrastructure Commissioned

President Tinubu also inaugurated key road projects, including the expanded eight-lane Galadima Aminu Way, complete with an overhead bridge, underpass, roundabout, and reinforced concrete stormwater drains. The dualised Gimba Road was also commissioned. Together, the projects cost ₦15.6 billion.

According to Governor Fintiri, the projects are part of a deliberate urban renewal campaign aimed at transforming Yola into a mega capital city capable of attracting investors while developing semi-urban centres to reduce rural-urban migration.

The President further commissioned the remodelled State High Court Complex A and B (₦5.5 billion) and a newly constructed automated gate and office complex at the Government House (₦6.3 billion).

Groundbreaking for NYSC Camp

In addition to commissioning projects, President Tinubu performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the proposed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Permanent Orientation NYSC Camp in Adamawa. The ₦7.5 billion project, to be funded and executed by the state government, is described as a gesture of appreciation and partnership with the Federal Government.

Federal Collaboration and Security Support

Governor Fintiri used the occasion to highlight the state’s intervention in federal infrastructure, including the reconstruction of several bridges such as the 13-span bridge at Shuwa, the four-span bridge at Hyambula, and the three-span bridge at Wuro Ngayandi, along with repairs on the Maraba Mubi–Michika–Madagali Federal Highway and embankment works at Gamu Bridge on the Ganye–Toungo axis.

On security, the governor disclosed that following presidential approval for the reestablishment of a military formation in Mubi, the state government renovated army barracks and drainage infrastructure to improve accommodation for officers and personnel.

A Message of Partnership

In his remarks, Governor Fintiri commended President Tinubu’s economic reforms, particularly policies promoting fiscal federalism and resource devolution, which he said have empowered subnational governments to deliver impactful projects.

He described leadership as requiring courage and pledged Adamawa State’s continued support for the President’s national development agenda.

The visit marks a significant moment in federal-state relations and signals ongoing collaboration aimed at boosting infrastructure, education, security, and economic growth in Adamawa and the Northeast region.
