As Nigerians usher in the New Year, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has called on citizens across the country to renew their belief in the Nigerian project and work collectively toward building a better future. Reflecting on the past year, Fintiri emphasised the need for unity, resilience, and a shared vision to overcome challenges and achieve national progress.
In a statement marking the start of 2025, made available by his chief Press secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, Gov. Fintiri acknowledged the hardships faced by Nigerians but highlighted the nation’s strength in adversity. “As a nation, we have a lot to be thankful for in 2024,” he said. He urged Nigerians not to lose hope, adding that the New Year offers an opportunity to rekindle dreams and aspirations.
While expressing pride in the resilience of Adamawa’s citizens, the Governor noted the state’s proactive measures to alleviate economic hardship. “When things got hard, the people of Adamawa, in the spirit of being their brother’s keeper, were there for each other. Our government also stepped in with poverty alleviation schemes to provide much-needed relief,” he stated.
Gov. Fintiri reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering an inclusive economy and attracting significant investments. “In 2025, our government will continue to build an economy that works for all,” he said, adding that new programs, including extensive irrigation projects, will create thousands of jobs in the state.
On security, he stresses the importance of collective responsibility. “We salute the courage of our uniformed personnel and other stakeholders in keeping the peace. Security is a shared responsibility, and we must all play our part in achieving growth and prosperity,” he remarked.
Turning to the national landscape, Gov. Fintiri called for introspection and unity to address Nigeria’s challenges. He attributed many of the country’s problems to man-made factors, including ethnic and religious intolerance, which he described as “the twin evils threatening to devour our collective heritage.”
“Looking back at the past year, it’s time for us to examine ourselves and address the root causes of our problems. Whether it is the downturn in the economy or security concerns, the challenges are traceable to ourselves,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to rise above divisive tendencies and embrace a culture of unity and mutual respect. “Before now, we saw ourselves as Nigerians first, irrespective of tribe, tongue, or religion. We must rediscover that unity of purpose to move forward as a nation,” he added.
Fintiri reiterated his administration’s dedication to improving lives through policies and projects aligned with his developmental agenda. “Whatever it takes, be it legislation or policy reform, we are committed to transforming our political, economic, and social structures to accelerate growth,” he said.
As the nation enters 2025, Governor Fintiri urged Nigerians to define a collective vision for the future and work together to achieve it. “We must avoid parochial and divisive politics and embrace progressive, people-oriented policies that will define us positively in the years ahead,” he concluded.
The Governor called on all citizens to partner with the government to realize the vision of a prosperous Nigeria, emphasising that the sacrifices made so far must not be in vain.
Governor Fintiri’s New Year message resonates as a call to all Nigerians to rally behind a shared vision for unity, growth, and development. As the nation navigates the challenges of a new year, his message underscores the importance of collective effort in achieving a brighter and more prosperous future for all.
