Yola, Nigeria – June 12, 2025

As Nigeria marks 26 years of uninterrupted democracy, Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has extended warm felicitations to Nigerians, urging citizens to recommit to the principles of justice, equity, and national unity.
In a message commemorating Democracy Day, Governor Fintiri described the journey so far as “extraordinary,” highlighting the nation’s transformation, growth, and democratic consolidation over the years. He acknowledged the challenges threatening democratic institutions, including attacks on rights and freedoms, a shrinking civic space, and growing societal polarization.
“Today, we celebrate an extraordinary Nigerian journey of 26 years, marked by transformation, growth, and the deepening of democracy,” the Governor said. “Yet, we must not ignore that rights and values are under attack, freedoms are being eroded, and civic space is diminishing.”
Commending Nigerians for their continued defense of the Constitution, Governor Fintiri praised the resilience of the electorate, particularly in Adamawa State. He noted that the people’s commitment during the 2023 general elections played a critical role in safeguarding democracy and sustaining the state’s peace and developmental momentum.
“As patriotic citizens, you were charged with a historic task: ensuring that democracy was not subverted. You did that very well,” he stated, adding that the electorate’s sacrifice reinforces the principle that authority is a public trust meant to serve the people with accountability and integrity.
Fintiri reiterated his administration’s commitment to democratic governance and inclusive development. He assured residents that the ongoing transition across sectors would continue until the end of his tenure. “That is my solemn promise to our people,” he declared.
However, he sounded a note of caution against any attempts to undermine the constitutional order, warning that such acts pose a threat to democracy, the rule of law, and national unity.
The Governor concluded his Democracy Day message with a call for unity and nation-building: “Let us keep building a more inclusive, just, and equal society for a greater future.”
