8th March, 2025
In a remarkable show of commitment to healthcare, the senator representing Southern Adamawa Senatorial District, Binos Dauda Yaroe, has provided free medical treatment to about 1,917 patients in Borrong and neighboring communities of Demsa Local Government Area in Adamawa state.
The medical outreach, which was held over the weekend,at Borrong Demsa, provided critical healthcare intervention for thousands of residents of the area and saved several locals from the huge financial burden that surgeries and healthcare would have exerted from them.
During the medical outreach, the Binos Mobile Hospital was stationed at the Primary Healthcare (PHC) Borrong which facilitated majority of medical services, while complex surgeries were conducted at the General Hospital Borrong.
Hundreds Receive Life-Changing Surgeries
Speaking on the impact of the outreach, Rephath Pius, Principal Medical Officer (PMO) of General Hospital Numan, disclosed that 1,850 outpatients were attended to, while 67 surgeries were successfully performed. These included:
21 Herniorrhaphies (hernia repairs)
8 Appendectomies (appendix removals)
3 Cystectomies (cyst removals)
3 Myomectomies (fibroid removals)
Various other procedures
Among the notable cases was a 32-year-old woman who underwent a free exploratory laparotomy for multiple fibroids, a twisted left adnexal mass, and a ruptured appendix—a procedure that would have cost over ₦500,000 in a private hospital. Additionally, a woman who had endured a giant fibroid for over 20 years finally received free treatment, while 10 pediatric patients, aged 2–10, underwent life-changing hernia repairs at no cost.
