2024 World Food Day Commemoration in Northeast Nigeria
Theme: Right to Foods for a Better Life and a Better Future

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in collaboration with the Adamawa State Government, will commemorate #WorldFoodDay 2024 in Yola World Food Day (WFD) is globally observed on 16 October. This year’s theme is “Right to Foods for a Better Life and a Better Future”, underscores the importance of transforming agrifood systems to address malnutrition, improve livelihoods, and enhance resilience, especially in areas affected by conflict, climate shocks, and economic instability.
The 2024 World Food Day event in Yola will concentrate on the unique challenges and opportunities faced by Northeast Nigeria. The event will advocate for the human right to adequate, nutritious, and accessible food, combating hunger and malnutrition in the Northeast. Public awareness will be raised regarding the need to transform agrifood systems to achieve better nutrition, sustainable environments, and improved livelihoods, while also highlighting the role of local farmers in building resilience through sustainable practices.
Key activities will include a visit to farms and farmer field schools in Jabbi Lamba, Girei Local Government Area, to demonstrate FAO’s support for local farmers in improving agricultural practices and building resilience. This will be followed by a symposium at AUN Hotel, Yola, organized in collaboration with the Adamawa State Government and various state ministries, including Agriculture, Livestock & Aquaculture, Water Resources, Environment, and Women Affairs.
Finally, the event will strengthen the commitment of stakeholders, including government officials, to tackling food insecurity in Northeast Nigeria, with an emphasis on collaboration, sustainable agriculture, and community empowerment.
