Adamawa Lawmaker Empowers 150 Women for Community Peace Building Initiative

In a commendable effort to foster community security and engagement, Adamawa lawmaker Kwamoti Laori, has facilitated a three-day training and empowerment program for 150 women from the Demsa, Numan, and Lamurde federal constituencies.

This initiative aims to equip participants with vital skills in conflict resolution and resilience amidst rising national tensions linked to protests against governance issues, hunger, and insecurity.

The training, which took place over three days, was designed to enhance participants’ abilities to foresee, mitigate, and resolve conflicts within their communities.

Given the current climate of unrest, the program sought to provide women with practical and theoretical tools to manage and recover from crises effectively.

Esteemed researchers from the Institute of Peace and Conflicts Resolution, Abuja, including Paul Gwaza and Aisha Esther Arigu, led the sessions.

The training drew on historical conflicts, including recent farmer-herder disputes in the constituencies, highlighting the role women played in managing these crises.

The comprehensive training covered essential topics such as the building blocks of peace, tools for post-conflict resilience, and strategies for advocacy and decision-making.

The objective was to empower women to actively participate in peacebuilding and to serve as ambassadors for peace within their communities.

During his keynote address, Hon. Kwamoti praised the participants for their dedication and urged them to act as peace ambassadors.

He emphasized the importance of using the acquired knowledge to influence and transform their communities towards peaceful coexistence.

The lawmaker also pledged to extend similar training programs to the youth in the future.

The event saw support from several dignitaries, including former acting governor of Adamawa State, Piton Power, and various local officials such as James Iliya and Hon. Talatu Yohana. They collectively encouraged the trainees to apply their newfound skills to foster peace and harmony, while also condemning actions that exacerbate conflict.

Highlight of the event include the presentation of certificates to participants and the presentation of cash donations totaling over fifteen million naira to participants.

This financial support aims to further empower the women in their peacebuilding efforts.

The program concluded on a high note, with participants expressing gratitude and a firm commitment to serve as peace ambassadors in their communities.

The initiative marks a significant step towards promoting lasting peace and stability in Adamawa State.
