My friends, comrades and fellow OBIDIENTS, I greet you all in the name of peace, democracy and freedom for all. I stand here before you not as a prophet but as a humble servant of you, the people to say all protocols dully observed and respected.
Your tireless and heroic sacrifices have made it possible for me to be here today. I therefore place the remaining Months of my service to this committee in your hands.
On this day of our Inauguration, I extend my sincere and warmest gratitude to the millions of OBIDIENTS and those in every nooks and corner of the globe who have campaigned tirelessly for PETER OBI AND LABOR PARTY in the last Presidential election.
I salute the every OBIDIENTS and LABOUR PARTY members. We note with pride that you have acted as the conscience of the country. Even during the darkest days in the history of our struggle in the last election, you held the flag of liberty high. Some even casted their votes on the pool of their own blood. We will never forget. All these cries for vengeance. The large-scale mass mobilization of the past few years is one of the key factors which led to the opening of the chapter of our struggle of a prosperous nation for all.
I pay tribute to the endless heroes of youth. You, the young lions. You the young lions have energized our entire struggle. Even when some were being forcefully disenfranchised from their pooling units, gallant youths of our democratic nation stood their ground amidst threats and maltreatments. Salutations to you all.
I pay tribute to the mothers and wives and sisters of our Movement. You are the rock-hard foundation of our struggle. PDP and APC has inflicted more economic pain on you than on anyone else. On this occasion, we thank the Diaspora – We thank the Diaspora community for their great contributions to the struggle. Without your support our struggle would not have reached this advanced stage.
My salutations will be incomplete without expressing my deep appreciation for the strength given to me so far by my beloved leader Comrade Marcel
Today, the majority of Nigerians, North, East, South and West, recognize that both PDP and APC have no future for this country. It has to be ended by our own decisive mass actions in order to enshrine peace, tranquility and security. The mass campaigns of defiance and other actions of our Movement and people can only culminate in the establishment of democracy.
The PDP and APC destruction on our Country cannot be over emphasized. The fabric of family life of millions of my people has been shattered. Millions are homeless and unemployed. Chronic insecurity, insurgencies, poor infrastructure, bad roads, to mention but a kobo.
Our economy lies in ruins and our people are embroiled in political strife. Our resort to the struggle of OBIDIENT MOVEMENT was a purely Mass action against the Oppression and suppression of the evil Political elites.
I am a loyal and disciplined member of the OBIDIENT MOVEMENT, LABOUR PARTY and also recognize the place of the NLC in LABOUR PARTY HIERARCHY. I am, therefore, in full agreement with all of its objectives, strategies and tactics.
The need to unite the people of our MOVEMENT and Party is as important a task now as it has always been. No individual leader is able to take all these enormous tasks on his own. It is our task as leaders to place our views before our organization and to allow the democratic structures to decide on the way forward.
On the question of democratic practice, I feel duty-bound to make the point that a leader of the movement or Party is a person who has been democratically elected at a national convention. This is a principle which must be upheld without any exceptions.
Harmonization cannot take up a place above the heads or behind the backs of our people.
Harmonization on the dismantling of politics of disunity will have to address the overwhelming demand of our people for a democratic non-selfish, unitary movement and political party. There must be an end to monopoly in political party and movement.
And a fundamental restructuring of our political party and movement to ensure that the inequalities among us are addressed and our political party thoroughly democratized.
As a committee, movement and Political party, we base our policy and strategy on the harsh reality we are faced with, and this reality is that we are suffering under the policies of the APC Government.
Our struggle is getting towards a decisive moment. We call on our fellow Comrades to seize this moment so that the process toward Harmonization is rapid and uninterrutped. We have waited too long for a better nation. We can no longer wait. Now is the time to intensify the struggle on all fronts.
To relax our efforts now would be a mistake which generations to come will not be able to forgive. The sight of a great nation looming on the horizon should encourage us to redouble our efforts and keep re-strategizing till we get it right. It is only through disciplined mass action through Harmonization that our victory In the next Presidential election can be assured.
My friends, I have no words of eloquence to offer today except to say that the remaining days of my service in this Harmonization Committee are in your hands.
In conclusion, I call on Labour Party and NLC to sit down together and iron out their differences so that we can forge a united front against the tyrants in Power.
Thank you all.
God bless the OBIDIENT MOVEMENT
GOD BLESS OBIDIENT HARMONIZATION COMMITTEE
GOD BLESS NIGERIA LABOUR CONGRESS
GOD BLESS LABOUR PARTY
Hon Joseph Enan Maigari
