Adamawa in Total Blackout Amidst Scorching Heat, As Ramadan Commences

It has been more than 24 hours and stll counting since there was any flash of electricity in most parts of Adamawa state admist extreme heat that has rendered most residents of Adamawa helpless and uncomfortable.

Most small scale and medium enterprises have been at the receiving end of this nightmare as some business have been grounded by the total lack of power to run their business as they have to generate their own electricity in the midst of high fuel prices, sky rocketing cost of living and unfriendly weather conditions that see the temperature in Yola soars between 39°c to 41°c.

Small and medium enterprises have been struggling to breath under the heavy weightof these additional expenses of runningbusiness which is eventually transfered to Nigerian household in the form of high pricess of goods and swrvices.

With the commencement of the Ramadan fast on the for moat muslims in Nigeria on10th March, 2024, the Yola Sun bonanza and power outage would only life unbearable to average Nigerian besides the fact that it is a spiritual endeavour.

Nigeria has been in a power crisis mode ove the last decades with the country’s power grid in consistent total and partial collapses that complete belies the successive government’s claims of investment in the power sector which neither led to improvement in the power supply or reduction in the burden of tariffs for power that Nigerians harshly continue to pay for against the reality of their power experience for decades.

With over 90 million Nigerians completely cut-off from electricity supply, Nigeria stands as the number one country in terms of lack of access to electricity in the world as Nigerians continue to groan under the debilitating impact of the new normal power outages.

With over 24hours without electricity in Yola, Adamawa, and its environs as at the time of filing this story, the usual suspicion is that the national grid might have collapsed again, although no official statement from the government or the management of the electricity distribution company has been issued to that effect, Nigerians have become used to it that it would be one story or the other.

In a country as huge as Nigeria, one wonders why solar power option has not been explored and why multiple hydro power stations have not been up and running across state and local governments in the country.
