NDLEA Arrests 365 Drug Offenders, Seizes 1845 kg of Assorted Drugs in Adamawa

The Adamawa state command of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it has arrested about a 365 persons in connection to drug related offences in Adamawa state and that 174 of the arrested offenders have been prosecuted, convicted and are serving various jail times while another
60 cases are still pending at the high court.

The command said in its renewed war on drugs abuse under Gen. Buba Marwa, it has made seizures of about 1,845.070 kg of drugs which represents about 33% increase from its total seizures in 2022.

This was made known to newsmen by the Adamawa State Commandant of NDLEA, Femi Samson, at a press briefing in Yola, Adamawa state.

Femi Samson said, ‘The aggressive and offensive action against drug dealers and illicit drug trafficking in Adamawa state was carried out through two approaches, namely Supply Reduction Strategy and Drug Demand Reduction which are two major pillars in the National Drug Control Master Plan (NDCMP).”

The command said it arrested 360 males and five (5) females in 2023 and that the command also seized 1,0080.866kg (1.8 tonnes) of assorted drugs which were made up of largely cannabis Sativa about 1,081.866kg, methamphetamine formalin, and Akuskura herbal mixture.

The command further explained that it has seized about 702.5 kg of psychotropic substances which includes tramadol, diazepam tablets, cough syrup, among other substances abused within the state.

While briefing journalist the Adamawa state NDLEA boss said that the command has prosecuted about 174 drug offenders mostly aged between 18-50 years old and that the command is sprearing no effort in its clampdown on the peddling and consumption of illicit drugs in the state.

Femi said, the command has recorded successes in enforcing the forfeiture of vehicles and cash amounting to about N821, 270.

He assured the public that the command in its effort at waging a total war on the consumption and trafficking of illicit drugs in the state has rehabilitated persons with drug use disorder and has successfully posted Drug Intelligence Officers (DIO) across the 21 local governments of Adamawa state.

He commended Buba Marwa for giving the war against drug abuse in Nigeria a new lease of life and that the command will intensify its effort in ridding Adamawa of the menace of drug abuse
