Adamawa State Governor, the Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has felicitated with young Nigerians on the occasion of the International Day of Youth.
The Governor who joined Nigerian youngsters on Saturday to mark International Youth Day, celebrated annually on August 12, praised the perseverance of the Youth and thanked them for their contributions to the country’s growth.
Governor Fintiri called on young people to help with the many agricultural initiatives the state is undertaking to ensure the nation’s continued access to nutritious food.
Gov. Fintiri made this known in a press statement made available to Newsmen over the weekend by his Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, in Yola, Adamawa state.
Fintiri said, “When costs of basic foodstuff are on the rise, it is crucial that our young people direct more of their attention and resources on farming. We must understand that Nigerian youth are essential to securing National Development as we recognise the many ways in which they have contributed to the country’s progress.”
Fintiri said, “It is the desire of my administration to inspire Young people to be creative, innovative, hands-on, determined, and dynamic towards ensuring water and food security.
“Governments at all levels must also encourage Youth entrepreneurship centred on food supply, water conservation, healthy food production, and the generation of energy needed to engage people in productive ventures.”
While raising concerns on the State of the Nation, Governor Fintiri said, “We need to prioritise agriculture and sustainable food production not just to fulfil our own requirements, but also to sell to the rest of the world if we ever hope to reach the level achieved by the developed nations. In order to reduce this disparity, it will take major contributions from all sectors, especially young people, in the areas of inventiveness, activism, and agricultural advancements.
“On behalf of the state, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the country’s teeming, strong, dynamic, forceful, and energetic youth on the occasion of Youth Day, and I urge you to brace up for this vital sector.”
