Security: Gov. Fintiri Lifts Curfew in 17 LGAs, 6am – 6pm in Effect only in Yola North, Yola South, Girei, Numan

“We Did Not Impose Curfew to Punish our citizens,” Gov. Fintiri

The Adamawa state Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has lifted the curfew imposed on in 17 of the 21 LGAs of the state but the curfew which was relaxed to be in effect between 6am and 6pm remain only in effect in Yola North, Yola South, Girei, and Numan.

Fintiri made this known in a press statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, in Yola, Adamawa state.

The statement read in part, “The curfew declared across the state last Sunday has now been relaxed in 17 Local Government Areas with the exception of the twin councils of Yola North, Yola South, Girei and Numan where the curfew will continue to run from 6:00pm to 6:00am daily, and will subsist till further notice. Security operatives will therefore remain in the affected councils to enforce the new directive with a view to further maintaining law and order.
“The new directive follows the return of peace and the advice of the state security council.”
Governor Fintiri pointed out that, “The curfew was never declared to inflict hardship on the good people of Adamawa in the first instance, but to protect them and return normalcy to the affected areas.”
While commending citizens and residents for their show of understanding and cooperation so far, the Governor enjoined the citizenry to always channel their grievances to the appropriate authorities and resist the temptation of taking law into their own hands.
