
President Muhamadu Buhari and the Chairman of ECOWAS, President Umaro Embalo of Guinea Bissau laid a foundation brick for a new headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.
The new headquarters named the Eye of West Africa will be built in partnership with the People’s Republic of China and is expected to be completed in February 2025.
The Chinese ambassador to Nigeria Cui Jianchun stated that “to sponsor and construct the new ECOWAS headquarters is a vivid reflection of China’s support to the work of ECOWAS, as well as the traditional friendship between China and the West African countries,”
The new edifice will house the ECOWAS Commission, the community Court of Justice and the Parliament to service three hundred and eighty million West African citizens.
